A smart and elegant identity for a professional singer and her band
Client: Gwen Oakden
When: November 2013
When I first started freelancing in 2013, and through necessity, I made working on website design and development a focus to increase my range and skillset. Without a commissioned project to build, I produced this website for a friend of mine as a favour and to give myself a challenge.
Gwen's original website was built by a skilled programmer in WordPress, but lacked any kind of style, with him not being design trained.
I began by developing her identity using a light weight of the typeface ITC Avant Garde Gothic, to give an elegant feel. A colour palette of black and white suited the supplied photography (from Sven Eselgroth) and made the overall website look smart and professional.
The typeface Georgia was chosen as the main copy font because with it being a serif, it contrasted nicely with the sans-serif letterforms of the logo, plus it's web safe, meaning that it would display correctly on any device.
Gwen has mostly given up singing at events now, being a busy mum of two, but I'm told she still practices at any and every opportunity!
